What We Can Do
Here are 3 actions that can make a difference!

1. Sign the Petition to Change the CCRC Code or Email the letter below to the Cobb Commissioners to protect other Cobb communities, such as Terrell Mill and Vinings, from going through a similar zoning battle as we have in East Cobb. See how the Zoning was opposed by all neighborhood reps in 2008.

I urge you to amend the Cobb County Continuing Care Retirement Community (CCRC) district zoning code.  This code is heavily weighted in favor of the developer, with few of the protections afforded to the neighboring community by most other zoning codes.  CCRC allows for unlimited density (units per acre), 4 story buildings, and 70% impervious surface coverage, all of which are highly incompatible with the usual 2-story single family detached home developments that currently exist on Low Density Residential land.

The following are specific proposed changes to the CCRC code:

  • A CCRC shall not be allowed in Low Density Residential, Very Low Density Residential or Rural Residential areas as shown on the future land use plan.
  • For CCRCs in Neighborhood Activity Centers, Medium Density Residential and Public/Institutional areas as shown on the future land use plan, the maximum building height shall be 35 feet above grade.
  • No floodplains, wetland areas or cemeteries may be used in calculating the overall density of the development.
  • The CCRC must be within five miles of an acute medical care center, by the roads customarily traveled by emergency response vehicles.

2. Isakson Living withdrew their zoning application on the Tritt property, and now a group called “The Friends for Tritt Park,’ modeled on the Friends of East Cobb Park is starting, to focus on community support to purchase the Tritt property for a Park.  Join The Friends for Tritt Park! For all the info, please read "'The Friends for Tritt Park: Our Community's Vision for the Tritt Property".

3.
Attend any upcoming meetings related in order to ask questions and raise concerns about the proposed property. See the Calendar of events.
